ALFA ROMEO GIULIA GTA TEAMS UP WITH ANTONIO GIOVINAZZI FOR THE 2020 FORMULA 1 CHAMPIONSHIP
The official start of the 2020 Formula 1 season will take place on 5 July, 2020 with the Austrian Grand Prix and will see the Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN driver, Antonio Giovinazzi, proudly sport the Alfa Romeo ‘GTAm’ logo on his race suit.
The iconic ‘GTAm’ badge will grace the Italian driver’s suit as a tribute to the new limited series model conceived for the brand’s 110th anniversary. Denoting the ultimate performance models and some of the most iconic versions of the Alfa Romeo range, the new GTAm adopts technical solutions derived directly from the technological skills and knowhow acquired by Sauber Engineering during its years working in Formula 1.
The aerodynamic lessons from Grand Prix racing have been key in the development of the GTAm. Bespoke solutions such as the active front splitter, side skirts and specific rear spoiler, as well as significant work on the underside of the car, have been developed to guarantee optimal aerodynamic loads, favouring stability and balance, particularly at high speeds.
The history of the brand is deeply linked to that of Formula 1, with Alfa Romeo winning the first ever Grand Prix and the inaugural season in 1950 with Nino Farina on board the Alfa Romeo Gran Premio Tipo 158 “Alfetta”. This triumph was repeated in 1951 by Juan Manuel Fangio in the Alfetta 159. This year the legend will continue with world champion Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi behind the wheel of their C39 models.
Exhilarating performances spanning history and future
The new Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA is technically and conceptually inspired by the 1965 Giulia GTA, the “Gran Turismo Alleggerita” developed by Autodelta for the Giulia Sprint GT, which achieved sporting success all over the world. The new Giulia GTA is based on the Giulia Quadrifoglio and is fitted with a more powerful version of the Alfa Romeo 2.9-litre V6 Bi-Turbo engine with 540hp. With its extensive use of ultra-light materials, it benefits from a weight reduction of 100kg compared to the Giulia Quadrifoglio, achieving an exceptional weight/power ratio of 2.82 kg/hp, making it the best-in-class.
