Alfa Romeo and Abarth triumph at the 2019 “Qatar Car Of The Year” awards
- Two victories for FCA at the Middle Eastern country’s top automotive awards.
- Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is named “Best Mid-Size Sports SUV”.
- Abarth 595 Competizione wins the title of “Best Compact Sports Car” in the premium segment.
The presentation ceremony of “Qatar Car of the Year (QCOTY)” 2019, the country’s top automotive awards, organised by Maqina Middle East magazine in association with the Mawater Centre, has been held in Doha (Qatar). The prizes are awarded by the magazine’s experts to the best vehicles – in all segments – on the basis of four key criteria: design, performance, safety and technological innovations. Prize and resale value are also considered in the final assessments.
The FCA Group triumphed with two victories: Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio won the title of “Best Mid-Size Sports SUV” while Abarth 595 Competizione was named “Best Compact Sports Car” in the premium segment. These awards extend the already impressive list of international prizes held by the two models, which have great appeal with the general public thanks to their sporty character, driving pleasure and all-Italian style.
Stelvio Quadrifoglio – the first SUV in Alfa Romeo’s history – offers a thrilling driving experience, outstanding performances and a distinctive Italian style, which make it one of the most amazing SUVs on the market. However, this model’s heart beats under the bonnet: the 2.9 V6 Bi-Turbo petrol engine with 510 HP and torque of 600 Nm powering a top speed of 283 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. What’s more, Stelvio Quadrifoglio holds the title of “the world’s fastest production SUV”, after setting the record time of 7 minutes, 51.7 seconds on the legendary Nürburgring circuit. As well outstanding aerodynamics, speed, power and handling, Stelvio Quadrifoglio features an exquisite interior, with choice quality materials, elegant Italian design and a wide, exclusive range of driving assist systems.
Abarth 595 Competizione’s win once more reflects the success of its aggressive style, racing-inspired details and 1.4 litre, 180 horsepower engine. Fitted with the iconic Record Monza exhaust for an unmistakable sound, the Scorpion brand’s little supercar is clearly intended for lovers of out-and-out performance and sportiness. Abarth 595 Competizione is also characterised by an exclusive interior featuring lavish use of carbon fibre and Alcantara, flat bottom steering wheel, Skydome roof, racing-inspired digital dashboard, and Apple CarPlay-ready, Android AutoTM – compatible* 7″ HD touchscreen Uconnect system. And we must not forget that the 595 is the icon of the Abarth brand, which this year celebrates its 70th anniversary, a motorsport milestone and yet another record for an Italian brand that still inspires the dreams of fans worldwide.
